DEPLOYMENT SUMMATION

Two years ago, NATO backed intervention in Takistan led to an overthrow of the existing regime, and the establishment of a new government.  Additionally, the existing armed forces were replaced with the New Takistan Army (NTA) to rebuild the national defense force. Since the intervention, militia groups have unsuccessfully challenged the NTA and national government for regional and local power. NTA forces have had past success in suppressing these militia groups.

However, a sudden shift in the training, organization, and equipment the militia groups are displaying has presented an overwhelming challenge to the under-equipped NTA. Two months ago, some of the militia groups in the Central Takistan Southwest region declared autonomy from national rule under the namesake Rijal Aljabal (RA) or Mountain Men.  Due to harsh terrain and sporadic villages in the Central Takistan region, the NTA is incapable of suppressing the RA’s aggression with their limited mobility and air assets. It is strongly suspected a third-party nation or organization is supplying weapons and training to RA.  When able, 1AA should attempt to gather intel.

The NTA has secured four DAP helicopters from Turkey, and a logistics contract for mechanics, supplies, and armaments from Germany to maintain the helicopters for five years.  Partnering with these countries, NATO is deploying 1AA under the Joint Force Training Center Command to aid the NTA in establishing an air assault training school.  While educating and training is the primary mission, 1AA is authorized to conduct combat operations under NTA command authority.  If the RA expansion and aggression continues prior to the air assault school’s completion, 1AA may deploy with NTA consent to interdict and suppress RA strongholds and seize territorial gains.

ATTACHMENT: INTELLIGENCE

(1) TERRAIN

Central Takistan is an arid, high altitude climate that consists of mostly mountainous terrain.  Several small villages and towns exist in the valleys of the mountains in the so-called “green valleys”.  With hot temperatures approaching, some helicopter operations may be restricted.

Most roads consist of dirt or deconstructed gravel, although paved roads are in place between major cities.  Most villages are underdeveloped with limited utilities. Three large oil fields are in the region: Nagara, Par-e Siah, and Loy Manara.  As of now, the oil fields remain in national control, but intel suggests RA forces may attempt a coordinated seizure.

(2) FRIENDLY FORCES

     (a)  New Takistan Army (NTA)
The NTA maintains a base of operations at the Rasman Airfield.  Within the region, NTA maintains approximately 100 men with 6 light response vehicles.  However, most are stationed throughout the region in small checkpoints. Additionally, NTA command authority is decentralized and weak: coordinated responses are difficult.  NTA has little capability to provide reinforcements if 1AA is deployed into the field.

     (b)  NATO
NATO has no other combat assets deployed in the region.  Civilian contractors are present for technical support.

(3) ENEMY FORCES

     (a)  Rijal Aljabal (RA)
RA has declared themselves independent of national rule. RA has claimed most of Central Takistan as their ancestral lands and is beginning to seize territory at a rapid pace in the southwestern region.

RA is receiving training and supplies from an unknown entity.  While currently no armored vehicles or advanced targeting systems have been spotted, 1AA should assume these assets may be acquired soon.  Intelligence gathering is essential on field deployments to ascertain the true origin of the equipment.

RA utilizes IEDs and suicide bombers.  Currently, RA controls most of Chak Chak and areas in the mountains to the Northwest.  Strength is unknown, but growing.

Intel collected has identified the following targets of interest/concern:
                   i.     “Al-Khalil” – a suspected regional RA leader; unknown identity and location.
ii.     “Quicksand” – an informant suggests Quicksand is a high-level leader that knows information regarding external parties cooperating with RA.
iii.     “Samita” – an infamous sniper team in the region that has killed several high profile NTA and government leaders.  Operates within a 3-man team in the southwest region.  High priority target for NTA leadership.
iv.  "Jobs" - a US intelligence asset recruited during the NATO backed intervention that operates within the fringes of the RA organization.  Provides consistent actionable intel for NTA forces and OGA operations.

     (b)  Sporadic Militia Groups
In addition to RA, several smaller, untrained groups using primarily small arms are scattered throughout the region in most villages outside of Rasman.  A common tactic is a roadside ambush from two members that strike and retreat.

(4) DEPLOYMENT MOUNTAINMOVER OBJECTIVES

- Establish FOB Wheeler on the NTA Base Rasman.
- Begin joint training exercises with NTA forces.
- Demonstrate insertions, assaults, combat patrols, movement under fire techniques, formation movements, and slingloading/fast roping skills.
- Work with NTA leaders to establish the NTA Air Assault School.
- Deploy into combat at the discretion of NTA leadership to halt RA expansion until NTA air assault operations are online.
